2027-28 WASC Reaffirmation

We are preparing for our next WASC Senior College and University Commission reaffirmation of accreditation. Reaffirmation is how WASC confirms that SJSU continues to meet rigorous standards of academic quality, student success, and institutional effectiveness. This process is an opportunity to reflect on our progress, celebrate our achievements, and plan boldly for the future.

We have a detailed timeline of milestones and activities in this multi-year effort, but at a broad level, the reaffirmation process includes the following key components:

  1. Engaging in campus-wide reflection and evidence gathering (Fall 2025 - Spring 2027);
  2. Preparing an Institutional Report (Spring and Summer 2027); and
  3. Hosting peer review visits from WASC representatives (Spring 2028).

Reaffirmation Can’t Happen Without YOU!

Your engagement is critical as we prepare our 2027 Institutional Report and 2028 site visit. The ARC committee will bring together faculty, staff, and students to tell our collective story about how we live our institutional mission and goals. Check back here often for the latest opportunities to contribute to the conversation!

Thanks for Making WASC Meaningful in    AY 2025-26

Dear Colleagues,

As we conclude this academic year, we want to take a moment to thank you for your engagement in our ongoing work to “make WASC meaningful” at San José State University.

Over the past several months, hundreds of faculty, staff, students, and administrators have participated in campus dialogues, workshops, roadshows, and assessment-focused conversations. Together, we have moved beyond viewing accreditation as a procedural task and instead embraced it as an opportunity for collective reflection, learning, and continuous improvement.

Through this work, several important themes have emerged. Across divisions, we see strong alignment with our mission and values, especially our shared commitments to student success, belonging, and public impact. Colleagues have expressed a deeper understanding of how their day-to-day work contributes to institutional effectiveness, and we are building clearer systems to connect our goals, data, and decision-making processes.

Equally important, we are advancing a more integrated and holistic vision of student success, one that brings together academic and student affairs and strengthens how we align curricular and co-curricular assessment. These efforts are laying the foundation for a more compelling institutional story as we prepare for our upcoming WASC reaffirmation.

This progress is only possible because of your time, expertise, and commitment. Thank you for contributing to this shared effort.

Our work will continue in the coming year as we deepen campus engagement, begin drafting our Institutional Report, and further strengthen our systems approach to assessment and improvement. Please save the date for our next campus-wide event:
